Description

Interested in getting a position at a teaching-intensive institution?

Join us for a coffee hour with Maria Gallegos, Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Cal State East Bay.

This event is a collaboration between the Graduate Student Internships for Career Exploration (GSICE) program and OCPD's Planning your Academic Career for Upcoming Professors (PAC-UP)series.
About our guest:
Dr. Maria Gallegos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at California State University East Bay. Her lab is interested in neurodevelopment and works to understand how a neuron's complex morphology is not only established but maintained throughout the life of an animal. The long-term goal is to identify the genes and understand the molecular mechanisms that specifically control late steps in neurodevelopment by exploiting the experimental advantages and anatomical simplicity of the nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans.
Discussion Topics:
Our speaker will be sharing her personal experience around 3 main topics, listed below.
  1. How to find tenured positions at undergraduate institutions,
  2. What to do during/after a Ph.D. to get experience in undergraduate teaching and mentorship,
  3. How to develop an effective teaching/mentoring style for undergraduates.

If you were hoping to get information unrelated to these 3 topics, OCPD has other resources available. Please visit our website at: career.ucsf.edu.

Location:

The location will be emailed to you prior to the event.

Cancellation Policy:
